Moxley was a teenager based in the Belle Haven neighborhood of Greenwich, Connecticut, when she tragically died at the age of 15. Her death was caused when she was bludgeoned and stabbed with a broken six-iron golf club.

Prior to her death, she was last seen with young members of the Skakel family, according to CBS News. The Skakel family, who are cousins of the Kennedys, lived across the street from Moxley’s family.
Who Was Arrested in Connection to Martha Moxley’s Murder?
25 years after her death, Michael Skakel was charged with Moxley’s murder in 2000. He was convicted in 2002 and was sentenced to serve 20 years to life in prison, per CBS News.
Skakel spent more than a decade in prison before a judge granted him a new trial in 2013 and he was released. According to the outlet, the judge believed Skakel’s first attorney failed to adequately represent him.
The Connecticut Supreme Court vacated his murder conviction in 2018 and ordered a new trial. However, prosecutors said they would not retry him in 2020.
In January 2024, CBS News reported that Skakel was suing the lead police investigator, Frank Garr, in the case and the town of Greenwich for alleged malicious prosecution, civil rights violations and other claimed wrongdoing. The lawsuit has still not been resolved as of time of publication.
What Is “Dead Certain: The Martha Moxley Murder” About?
“Dead Certain: The Martha Moxley Murder” will be hosted by journalist Andrew Goldman and will feature multiple interviews with Skakel about Moxley’s murder.
The podcast will include 12 episodes as Goldman breaks down decades of legal battles, media interest and lingering doubts connected to the case that took place five decades ago.

Skakel’s cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr. previously hired Goldman to research and ghostwrite a book about the case. One decade later, the journalist set out on his own investigation and will share his findings on the podcast.
Goldman will conduct in-depth interviews with key figures, including Moxley’s close friends, retired FBI Agent Jim Murphy, Skakel’s brother Stephen Skakel and former LAPD detective Mark Fuhrman, according to NBC Universal News Group.
