Trader Joe's Shoppers Delight in the Return of a Beloved Discontinued Product

Trader Joe’s has cultivated a cult-like following among fans thanks to the niche products it keeps stocked on shelves, such as Everything Bagel seasoning, Chili & Lime Flavored Rolled Tortilla Chips, and Hold the Cone! Mini Ice Cream Cones—just to name a few.

However, as the grocery chain is constantly testing out new products, sometimes these new products come at the expense of fan-favorite items that occasionally get discontinued. But as we head into spooky season, one such item just made its triumphant return after two years.

In a recent Reddit post, one Bay Area shopper announced the return of Trader Joe’s Organic Spicy Taco Sauce after spying it at their local store. “I couldn’t believe my eyes,” the user wrote. “I’ve checked every time I’ve shopped since it was discontinued and today was the day. Fingers crossed it tastes the same.”

In the accompanying photo, the 13 ounce bottle is seen advertised on sale for $2.49. The user noted that they bought four bottles out of paranoia that it would be discontinued again.

For those curious about the flavor, a few commenters noted that the sauce tastes similarly to Taco Bell hot sauce packets, as opposed to a Cholula or Tabasco. A couple other shoppers chimed in that they had also spotted the sauce, while some others said they checked with their local stores and learned that it would be returning soon.

According to the product detail page on the Trader Joe’s website, the popular sauce is described as having a distilled vinegar and tomato paste base, with chili pepper powder, red jalapeño pepper purée, and cayenne peppers to add heat and spices such as garlic powder, pepper, and oregano to round out the flavor.

“It’s savory, tangy, and spicy-but not so spicy that you’d have any qualms about dousing your food in it,” the description reads. “And there’s no added sugar, to boot!” In addition to tacos, the website recommends adding it to food such as scrambled eggs, burgers, and TJ’s Breaded Chicken Tenderloins.

It’s unclear whether the so-called Spicy Skeleton Sauce is back for good or for a limited time. In a recent post on its website, Trader Joe’s revealed all of the limited-time fall seasonal products headed to stores this month, but the Organic Spicy Taco Sauce was not listed among the items.
