This Summer, the Trend of the "Scandi Hairline" is Set to Spread Everywhere
If you've been amazed by the natural, light highlights in Scandinavian hair, then you're already aware of the latest hair trend. The "Scandi Hairline" color technique has come to be, thanks to the effortless effect that has taken over the fashion scene. According to Jaclyn Seabrooke, a New York City hairstylist, "Regardless of their hair color, their hairline, face frames, and baby hairs are so effortlessly kissed by the sun and stand out so much lighter and brighter than the rest of the hair on their head. The way the highlights peek out from underneath around the face is so subtle and flattering, as opposed to the bold, solid money piece technique that was previously trending."
Seabrooke goes on to explain that the "Scandi Hairline" technique is a color technique that brightens the hairline around the face a touch lighter and brighter than the rest of your hairline to replicate how the sun hits the hair. The technique is typically performed at the wash basin after highlighting or balayage services. A small section of hair, roughly half an inch wide, along the hairline is chosen, and it is then processed with freehand lightener for up to 5 minutes. "To achieve a seamless blend," says Seabrooke, "it's important to keep the hairline color just one or two shades lighter than the rest of your hair. This ensures a natural look that enhances the beauty of your baby hairs and hairline."
The beauty of the "Scandi Hairline" trend is its versatility. It is not only for blondes; it can be achieved for redheads, brunettes, and darker hair shades that also want brightness to soften the look of baby hairs and hairline for a natural brightening effect. Seabrooke explains that "The technique can look incredibly natural, seamlessly blending with your full hair color, or it can be combined with stronger face-frame highlights for a more dramatic effect."
Regular touch-ups every 12 weeks are recommended to keep your "Scandi Hairline" looking fresh and vibrant. For brunettes and darker shades, Seabrooke suggests incorporating a gloss or toner to eliminate any unwanted brassy tones, further enhancing the natural, sunkissed look.
