"Intense Competition for Lead Role in Britney Spears Biopic: A Potential Career-Defining Opportunity"

Britney Spears has been super involved in the development of her upcoming biopic and a source exclusively tells Life & Style the Princess of Pop has a buffet of top talent to choose from as she considers which young star is best to play her in the leading role.

“Britney is someone that a lot of Gen Z girls look up to, they’ve been hearing her music all their lives, to them she really is an icon,” the source says, “Plus, with John M. Chu writing and directing and all the heat already on the project, it’s being seen as a career making movie, there’s a lot of discussion about who will get it and a definite competitive vibe.”

John, 45, fresh off a pretty successful Wicked run, gave a rare glimpse into what he has planned for Britney’s biopic, which is based on her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, and how he intends to work closely with the iconic singer on the project.

“I’ve been a fan since I was young and she was young and she was one of 12 acts at the Shrine Auditorium,” the director said. “So I want to do her justice and tell her story right. But we’ll see. We’re developing it now and it’s a long road ahead.”

With the picture still in preproduction, a lot has yet to be decided, as John said. That includes signing the actress to play Britney, 43.

“Millie Bobby Brown has been openly campaigning for it, a lot of people think that’s the motivation for her to go bleach blonde, she wants people to see her in this role,” the insider notes. “She’s got a great singer, but there are also a number of pop stars clamoring for this including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande.”

Millie, 21, who had undergone some serious style changes as of late, openly discussed how much the role would mean to her. “I mean, she is an absolute icon,” the Stranger Things alum said of her idol, Brit. “I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story.”

Though according to a different source who talked to Daily Mail, the “Hit Me Baby One More Time” singer may not reciprocate the young actress’ feelings. “Millie Bobby Brown is so desperate to play Britney that those close to her feel it has become her life mission right now,’ that source said. “She believes she was born for this role … The problem is, Britney isn’t on board. She doesn’t see the resemblance.”

Despite Millie going bleach blonde to better sell herself as a solid option for the lead role, the first source notes there are other contenders that stand out even more, namely Ariana Grande, also hot off her last movie with the biopic’s director.

“Ariana is a huge fan of Britney and she’s obviously got a huge in with John since she’s just done Wicked with him and proved how hard she will work for a part.”

“There are a lot of heavy hitters that want this role, so the fight is definitely on.”
