The Top Fragrances to Discover This December
It’s officially winter as of next week, and this time of year, most of us are wrapped up in multiple layers, reaching for woody, amber or gourmand scents that make us feel cozy and warm. No matter your preference (perhaps you’re on the hunt for a new signature scent?), there’s are several exciting launches in the fragrance category this month. From PHLUR’s latest “warm amber haze” to Sabrina Carpenter’s playful take on lemon pie, there’s a little something for everyone. Below, see our list of the best new fragrances for December, which can boost your mood and express your personal style with a quick little spritz.
When someone tells me a fragrance feels like “a rush of instant chemistry” and smells like “a warm amber haze,” I go into “need it now” mode. That’s how I felt with this warm, woody, amber-forward scent, which perfumer Clement Gavarry says “was inspired by the spark of a first connection. The kind that lingers in the air like static. It’s warm and alive, a mix of anticipation and ease. That moment of charged stillness that’s soft and intimate is what I wanted to capture.”
This floral-ambery fragrance is a time capsule—an ode to ’70s Paris. In fact, it was created in 1976 by Ben Krigler’s mother, Liliane, and never released—until now. Inspired by a pivotal time for women’s rights in France, the scent took four years to develop and is described by Liliane as “a song that starts the beat slowly, then grows into waking you up, and then finishes in a wild dancing act.”
Bergamot, Orange Blossom, Tuberose, Jasmine, Vanilla, Cedarwood, Musk
Inspired by Daisy Eau de Toilette, this limited-edition fragrance blends Marc Jacobs’ classic Daisy with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami’s “vibrant floral universe.” It’s playful, whimsical and fun—a great gift for the Daisy lover. There are four scents (and colors) to choose from, but the yellow is our favorite, with key notes of strawberry, raspberry and cedarwood.
Top: Mandarin EO, Kumquat NP, Pink Pepper EO, Grapefruit EO; Middle: Strawberry SFE, Raspberry SFE, Gardenia NP, Rose Bud FirAbs; Base: Cedarwood EO, Benzoin Res, Praline, Ambrox
If you love fragrances that lean floral but aren’t overly so, this is a perfect one to try this season, mixing warm ylang-ylang with gourmand pistachio and warm sandalwood. (Not to mention, Coach is trending right now.) The effervescent scent is inspired by “the beauty of clear blue skies and the joy of endless possibility,” and is intended to help you feel empowered to follow your dreams.
Top: Pistachio; Middle: Ylang Ylang; Base: Sandalwood
Sabrina Carpenter’s latest perfume—a zesty citrus-gourmand—”captures the glimmer of a sun-kissed afternoon and the indulgence of a fresh-baked dessert.” Housed in a playful, pastel bottle shaped like a chocolate bar, the scent brings the irresistible essence of lemon pie to life. “This fragrance feels fun, happy and a little nostalgic, which is the perfect combination,” says Carpenter.
Top: Italian Bergamot, Candied Lemon Zest, Sugar Crystals; Mid: Dash Of Limoncello, Meringue, Condensed Milk: Base: Graham Cracker Crust, Vanilla Whipped Cream, Tonka Bean
