Publicist Denies Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Marriage Rumors: 'Absurd'
The publicist for Taylor Swift, Tree Paine, recently dispelled rumors suggesting that the pop singer had secretly married her long-term boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. The rumors had been circulating since the couple ended their six-year relationship half a year ago.
Paine decided to clear the air on X, formerly known as Twitter, on November 30. He denied that there had been any marriage ceremony between Swift, aged 33, and Alwyn, aged 32 in either 2020 or 2021.
Paine expressed his frustration over persistent rumors and false news about Swift. He firmly stated that there hadn't been any wedding or ceremony of any sort. He further mentioned that the people spreading these rumors need to be held accountable for causing unnecessary emotional distress.
This statement came after years of unconfirmed speculations that Swift and Alwyn had a secret wedding. Some netizens even speculated the couple to have only conducted a commitment ceremony without making the marriage official.
When Swift and Alwyn were together, they remained profoundly private about their relationship. Neither has publicly commented on their breakup. An anonymous source close to Swift reportedly shared with Life & Style that the singer's friends weren't shocked when they broke up and understood that relationships sometimes do not work out.
Swift has since been associated with Travis Kelce. A recent reminder of her breakup with Alwyn came when her frequent collaborator, Jack Antonoff, gave an elusive hint about the singer's past relationship.
Antonoff, 39, on November 29, shared a picture showing Swift eating while they were writing and recording the song "You’re Losing Me." The song was later released on Spotify and was initially part of an exclusive CD edition of Swift's Midnights album only available at MetLife Stadium during her Eras tour.
Fans speculated that the song might be about her relationship with Alwyn as it depicted a rocky relationship and a future of uncertainty. The lyrics include phrases like "Do something, babe, say something / Lose something, babe, risk something / Choose something, babe, I got nothing to believe, unless you’re choosing me."
Although initially assumed to have been written after their breakup, Antonoff revealed the song was composed over a year before their parting. This disclosure made social media users believe that Swift and Joe were experiencing issues long before their separation.
Critics on social media interpreted the song to mean Swift knew their relationship was coming to an end by 2021. Various posts reflected surprise at the fact that Swift still attempted to make the relationship work a year after writing such a heart-wrenching song.
