Surprise Announcement: Sofia Richie and Husband Elliot Grainge Prepare for Baby No. 1

It's official - Sofia Richie is expecting! The heir apparent broke the news on Thursday, January 25 that her nine-month-old marriage with Elliot Grainge is set to embrace parenthood with their first child. They are over the moon with the confirmation of a baby girl on the way.

In an exclusive interview with Vogue, the 25-year-old mother-to-be uncovered her blossoming baby bump in a stunning black and white portrait. The imminent arrival of her daughter seems to be progressing at a quick pace, making the due date somewhat perplexing, as Sofia revealed to the magazine.

Sofia disclosed that the revelation of her baby’s sex came via text from her doctor to her assistant. "We had two party poppers ready, one blue and one pink," she said elaborating on the gender reveal.

"The one containing the accurate color was left out and Elliot and I burst it together. Both of us were genuinely taken aback as we initially thought it was a boy. Nevertheless, my lifelong dream of having a daughter is now turning into reality", the erstwhile swimsuit model shared. Even Elliot, despite stereotypes of boys wanting boys, is equally thrilled for a baby girl. "Having many sisters tempered his outlook. He was truly moved. He is very caring,” added Sofia.

The news of her pregnancy dawned on her amidst her high-flying lifestyle.

"Very early into the pregnancy, when I was just four weeks along, I got to know. This happened when I was in Milan for Fashion Week, where I had to attend the Prada show. My schedule was packed and I was under the weather which I misattributed to jet lag initially," she confessed.

After returning to Los Angeles, Sofia and Elliot, 30, were scheduled to go to an Ed Sheeran gig the next evening. However, a missed period prompted her to take a pregnancy test before a potentially heavy drinking night. The couple, married since their nuptials, had been casually trying for a baby, Sofia admitted.

She took a home-based pregnancy test that displayed a faint line. "Years filled with negative results trained me to spot even the slightest aberration," she noted.

The music entrepreneur hurriedly bought three top-tier pregnancy tests and on returning home, comforted his anxious wife saying, "If these show negative, it's okay. Our time will come."

Sofia added, "Watching all three tests turn positive was emotional for both of us. We were ecstatic and couldn't help but tear up. Holding this secret, especially from our friend circle, was a challenge but we chose to be cautious given the early stage of the pregnancy."

The wife-to-be also alluded to her stage of pregnancy while discussing the transformation of her body. "This experience enlightened me with more knowledge in six months than my entire life, particularly the miraculous capabilities of a woman’s body. Each week is a revelation of hormonal shifts and physical growth. It's awe-inspiring to witness the various changes our bodies go through," Sofia admitted.

Sofia and Elliot pronounced their engagement in April 2022 while vacationing in Hawaii with their families. Exactly one year later, the glamorous duo tied the knot in a spectacular ceremony at the opulent Hotel du Cap-Eden-Rock in Antibes, South of France. Sofia, a trailblazer in fashion, adorned three bespoke Chanel creations for the rehearsal dinner, wedding ceremony and the subsequent reception.
