Selena Gomez Prioritizes 'Self-Care' by Steering Clear of Hailey Bieber at 2025 Vanity Fair Oscars Afterparty

Selena Gomez had a near miss with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber‘s wife, Hailey Bieber, at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty. A source exclusively tells Life & Style that she avoided the run-in to prioritize “self-care.”

“Selena looked gorgeous and felt amazing at the Oscars and she wasn’t going to let anything ruin her special night. She’s gotten a lot better at avoiding drama and that means falling into any traps that could cause any negative buzz or unnecessary anxiety for her,” the insider explains.

“So yes, while she didn’t obsess about it, avoiding a potential Hailey Bieber viral moment was in the back of her head. It’s not always possible, but she’s learned to avoid potentially awkward moments. If she had bumped into her, she definitely would have said hello,” the source continues.

“Selena has nothing against Hailey, that’s never really been her focus, and she’s certainly way over the long-standing trend of pitting women against each other. So, not putting herself in a situation like that is just about self-care and not giving haters any ammunition,” the insider said of the “Love On” singer, 32. “She only wishes the best for Hailey, Justin and their new baby. Selena’s Oscar night was all about good vibes, celebrating her film Emilia Pérez and her costars, and the industry she loves.”

The Daily Mail was the first to report on Selena avoiding an encounter with Hailey, 28, with a source noting, “She just wanted to avoid being photographed with her or near her because then 100 stories are born. Selena took a picture with Hailey in the past and it didn’t feel right.”

Selena looked stunning on the red carpet at the 2025 Oscars, wearing a shimmering blush Ralph Lauren gown with an exquisite diamond necklace. While she didn’t pose with her fiancé, Benny Blanco, he was waiting in the wings to join Selena in the audience for the ceremony.

After the event, the duo headed to the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, where Selena changed into a slinky strapless black sequined gown. Hailey wore a nearly identical look, only her strapless black gown featured a satin bow at her waistline and sheer fabric from her knees down.

Justin, 31, didn’t attend the party.

Selena and Hailey previously posed for a rare photograph together at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures’ 2nd annual gala in October 2022. It came several weeks after the Rhode skin founder denied that she stole Justin from Selena during an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.

“I can say, period, point blank, I was never with him when he was in a relationship with anybody — that’s the end of it,” Hailey told host Alex Cooper.

The model also said there was “no drama” with Selena, noting, “It’s all respect, it’s all love.” She added that the pair had spoken since her 2019 formal wedding to Justin, but didn’t share details of the conversation.

“There’s no drama, personally. That’s also why I feel like, well, if everybody on our side knows what happened and we’re good and we could walk away from it with clarity and respect, then that’s fine,” Hailey revealed.

Selena dated the “Peaches” singer on and off from 2011 through 2018. The duo broke up for good in the winter of that year after reuniting in October 2017 following the “Wolves” singer’s split from The Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye).

Hailey and Justin reconnected in May 2018, after briefly dating two years earlier. He popped the question two months later and the couple married in a New York courthouse ceremony in September 2018. The duo threw a formal wedding for family and friends at a South Carolina resort in September 2019.

Justin and Hailey became first-time parents in August 2024 with the birth of their son, Jack Blues Bieber.

Selena and Benny, 36, got engaged in December 2024 after dating for more than a year.
