Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher Quietly Separate After Nearly 14 Years of Marriage: Official Announcement
Sacha Baron Cohen and his spouse, Isla Fisher, have publicly declared their intention to separate after a marriage of almost 14 years.
In an Instagram Stories post made on April 5, Sacha, aged 52, wrote: “After a marriage that can be likened to a long tennis match of over twenty years, we’ve finally decided to hang up our racquets. We jointly filed in 2023 to dissolve our marriage. Valuing our privacy, we have been discretely dealing with this transition.”
The statement was ongoing: “We still maintain a shared, unfaltering love and dedication towards our children. We greatly appreciate your respect of our desire for privacy regarding our family.”
Concurring with the statement, the actress from Confessions of a Shopaholic, Isla (48 years old), shared the message on her social media.
The divorce follows serious allegations made by Sacha and Isla’s colleague, Rebel Wilson in her latest memoir released on April 2 named Rebel Rising. The three of them had previously worked together on the 2016 movie The Brothers Grimsby.
Rebel documented her experience with Sacha during the movie production, accusing him of humiliating her and asking her to commit an obscene act.
Rebel wrote in her memoir about Sacha’s demand via a production assistant for her to film an extra scene. She writes, “[Sacha Baron Cohen] goes like, ‘Okay, we need to film this additional scene,’ and then lowers his pants. He casually says, ‘Now, I want you to put your finger up my rear.’ I’m startled and say, ‘What? No!’”
Sacha’s representatives have dismissed the allegations. In a statement to People, they said, “While appreciating the necessity of speaking up, these patently false accusations are refuted by extensive concrete proof, including contemporaneous documents, film footage, and testimonies of witnesses who were present before, during, and after The Brothers Grimsby’s production.”
Sacha and Isla’s story dates back to their first meeting in 2001. The Madagascar star told the New York Times that he found Isla "hilarious" when he met her first.
“She and I connected by joking about the others at an over-the-top party we were at,” he told the publication. “I knew instantly. I don’t know if she felt the same.”
The couple decided to wed in 2004 and finally tied the knot in a cozy ceremony in Paris in 2010. The couple had three children during their nearly 14-year long conjugal life.
Earlier this year, the actress gave some insight into her relationship with the Borat actor during her session at the Kelly Clarkson Show, revealing their Valentine's Day customs.
“I wouldn't claim we're particularly romantic. With so many children and being busy, we don’t do a lot,” she told the host, Kelly Clarkson, on February 13. “But each year, Sacha does send me a card that reads, ‘Happy Valentine’s from’ followed by a massive question mark, as a joke,” she added.
"It's as if any other individuals would send me Valentine's wishes. I am a mother of three,” she made light of the situation, adding in jest, “It's like I am saying, ‘Ooooh. So many men.’”
