Following the underwhelming performance of Ryan Gosling's recent movie, The Fall Guy, it seems that Gosling is urging Margot Robbie to team up again as Ken and Barbie for another adventure, according to Life & Style sources.

Due to the outstanding success of their 2023 collaboration - for which Gosling received an Academy Award nomination - the 43-year-old actor hopes to secure approval for a sequel based on the famous Mattel doll brand at the earliest possible time.

"In the past few months, Ryan has seen the best and the worst of times," an insider disclosed. "The Barbie movie solidified his position as a top-tier actor and exceeded all predictions. His Oscars singing performance also propelled him to instant Hollywood stardom and brought him a host of new admirers."

However, The Fall Guy's debut weekend was lacklustre, grossing $28.5 million domestically, despite estimates of $30 to $40 million. The film, which co-starred Emily Blunt, was said to have a significant budget of around $140 million. In contrast, Barbie generated over $155 million domestically in its premiere weekend, setting a new record for a female director's opening.

“The Fall Guy was not successful, and Gosling's withdrawal from Wolf Man last year terminated a role that could have yielded him numerous millions,” the source reveals. The insider also observed that an upcoming Ocean’s 11 prequel, rumoured to feature Ryan and Margot, isn't progressing as quickly as planned.

“Ryan's planned acquisition of the Ocean's Eleven series, previously led by his former mentor George Clooney, has been postponed to manage the budget,” the insider explains. “It's becoming evident that another Barbie movie is his only certain bet at this point."

However, rallying Barbie and Ken for another instalment may prove challenging. “Getting a sequel or a Ken-side project running will require tremendous effort because those films won't happen without Margot Robbie's participation,” the source mentions, “and she's currently committed to a dozen other projects.”

The rapid twists and turns have significantly impacted the thrice-nominated Oscar actor.

"It's odd that just a few months ago, Ryan had a world of opportunities and now he's been given a reality check,” the source discloses, adding that “he has no option but to revisit his previous successes!”.
