Meghan Markle's Reaction to the Surging Popularity of 'Suits' on Streaming Services: Isn't it Astonishing?
Meghan Markle may have left her role in Suits in 2018, but she is delighted with the show's recent success after it became available for streaming earlier this year. The Duchess of Sussex spoke about the show's newfound popularity while attending Variety‘s Power of Women event on Thursday, November 16.
"Isn't that fascinating?" Meghan, 42, responded when informed that over 45 billion minutes of Suits were viewed on Netflix and Peacock. She confessed her uncertainty concerning the reasons for the show's resurgence, yet she believed that the sheer amount of episodes available for binge-watching could be a contributing factor. In addition, quality shows have a timeless appeal, according to her.
As a California native, Meghan went on to express how wonderful it was to be part of such a wonderful cast and crew. "We had a genuinely enjoyable time," she said.
On the USA Network series, Meghan brought the character of Rachel Zane to life from seasons 1 through 7, alongside fellow cast members Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams and Sarah Rafferty, among others. Her time on Suits yielded substantial earnings, earning $50,000 per episode according to Fortune. However, as her relationship with Prince Harry grew more serious, she bid farewell to the show.
In a 2017 BBC interview, Meghan didn't perceive leaving Suits as a sacrifice, but rather as an opportunity for change. She pointed out that the show had a prosperous seven-year run. After reaching their 100th episode, she felt a sense of accomplishment over the work they had done and was ready to form a team with her future spouse, Harry.
Meghan and Harry, now 39, got married in May 2018. While their royal wedding was certainly newsworthy in its own right, Suits producer Aaron Korsh credited the event with improving the show's ratings.
During the first two seasons, the experience was mind-bogglingly unreal for Aaron, now 57. Then Meghan's marriage to Harry reignited that surreal sensation.
During the beginning stages of their relationship, Harry admitted to searching online for some of Meghan's love scenes. Harry revealed in his 2023 memoir, Spare, that he'd seen scenes of her with another cast member in apparently compromising situations and thought it wasn't necessary to witness such things live.
