Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka End 'Cordial' Relationship After 7-Year Dating Period: 'They Had a Successful Journey'
After seven years of dating, Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka have ended their relationship on amicable terms, according to an inside source that spoke to Life & Style.
The source shared that Mariah holds no grudges against Bryan. "Their relationship was good, spanned over seven years, they enjoyed each other's company and Bryan was always respectful," the insider shared.
The source also linked their separation to Bryan, 40, who expressed a desire to start his own family. The source further revealed, “Their break up was gracious and they aim to maintain their friendship, but Mariah wishes for him to find his soulmate and pursue his aspirations.”
According to the source, Mariah believes Bryan will be an excellent father.
Mariah, 54, and Bryan's love story began in 2016 when Bryan was serving as her backup dancer. Their acquaintance goes back to 2006 when Bryan performed in her Adventures of Mimi Tour. Their bond turned romantic over time.
Their romantic involvement became official when they were seen showing affection publicly on multiple occasions. The “Obsessed” singer validated their relationship during an interview with the Associated Press in February 2017.
“I’m just going to maintain, ‘I generally abstain from discussing my personal life.’ This approach worked for some time earlier on,” she shared with the media source. “I simply don’t feel secure discussing my personal life … My boyfriend and I have decided against it.”
Even though Bryan is yet to become a father, Mariah bore twins Monroe and Moroccan with her former husband Nick Cannon on April 30, 2011. She was previously married to Nick Cannon from 2008 to 2016 and to Tommy Mottola from 1993 to 1998.
Despite their lengthy relationship, Mariah and Bryan made a point to keep their love life away from public scrutiny and seldom spoke about one another in interviews. However, they would occasionally upload their pictures on social media platforms.
“This is one of my favorite pictures. Ever. Happy Anniversary my Beautiful Queen,” Bryan wrote in the caption for a black and white picture of the two on Instagram in March.
The rumors of their breakup started circulating when fans noticed Bryan's absence during Mariah's "Merry Christmas One and All!" tour that commenced in November.
Speculations were further confirmed when Mariah hinted at her troublesome year during an interview, “I’ve been excited about this Christmas for, like, the whole year. Since last year — because last year wasn’t the greatest,” she told People in an interview released on December 4. “I’m grateful for all of them, but the previous year was not the most enjoyable version of Christmas for me.”
