Country music icon Lainey Wilson is recognized for her distinct bell bottom style, as she is invariably seen wearing this type of trouser in photographs. The "God Bless Texas" singer disclosed the origin of her signature style in the new Hulu documentary titled Lainey Wilson: Bell Bottom Country.

Lainey, 32, discussed her economic fashion tactics, saying, "I feel like many of my outfits are interchangeable. I'm not someone who believes in wearing an outfit just once or twice. I do a significant amount of vintage shopping."

When she relocated to Nashville, she quickly understood that being just a singer-songwriter would not suffice, particularly as a woman in the industry. "I realised I would need to elevate my game. For me, that involved embracing a retro, bell bottom look," she mentioned while discussing her decision to adopt flared pants as her fashion statement.

"I believed it was authentic to who I am. I think I have an old soul. Furthermore, I've always been drawn to things that seem to carry a narrative," Lainey shared. "I basically put on a lot of mismatched items and call it my outfit for the day."

In a July 2023 interview with Variety, the "Heart Like a Truck" singer reminisced about the first time she became obsessed with the trousers as a child. She said, “My very first pair of bell bottoms were blue and leopard print. My mother bought them for me. I wore them so much, my mother insisted they needed to be washed. But I just think that retro items bring an interesting storyline."

It was no surprise that Lainey, as an adult, revisited her passion for bell bottoms. After moving to Nashville and finding it tough to establish herself in the industry, she decided to settle on this unique look to stand out.

"In probably 2016, I decided, if I'm seriously considering this, I need to wear bell bottoms and my vintage shirts daily. It took about a year before I secured a publishing contract, and I strictly adhered to my style," the Baskin, Louisiana-raised singer informed the publication.

Lainey's 2022 record Bell Bottom Country made her a sensation, as the album bagged both the ACM and CMA Album of the Year award. She also won a Grammy for Best Country Album in 2024.
