King Charles has made an appearance in Windsor to greet French President Emmanuel Macron for his official state visit to Britain. Alongside Queen Camilla and First Lady Brigitte Macron, the monarch kicked off the three-day diplomatic trip, which will celebrate a millennium of 'shared history and culture' between Britain and France.

During the welcoming ceremony, observers noted the King's seemingly bloodshot eye. A Buckingham Palace representative clarified that there's no reason for concern, explaining it resulted from a ruptured blood vessel in his right eye that occurred during the night. They emphasised that the condition bears no connection to the sovereign's current cancer treatment.

The grand ceremonial proceedings will feature an official welcome at the Royal Dais on Datchet Road in Windsor, with royal gun salutes echoing from Home Park and the Tower of London.

Charles, Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and President and Mrs Macron will then embark on a horse-drawn carriage journey through the Berkshire town and along sections of the Long Walk leading to the castle, reports the Express.

A formal reception will take place in the castle's courtyard, with Camilla, William, Catherine and Mrs Macron observing as the King and President Macron review the Guard of Honour.

A luncheon will be held in the State Dining Room, followed by the presidential couple, Their Majesties and Royal family members viewing a curated display of French-related treasures from the Royal Collection in the Green Drawing Room.

Mr and Mrs Macron are set to journey to London on Tuesday afternoon, where they'll pay their respects at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior at Westminster Abbey.

They will then embark on a tour the Palace of Westminster with Macron addressing parliamentarians in the Royal Gallery, and meet with opposition leaders at Lancaster House.

This evening, a dazzling state banquet will be held in St George's Hall at Windsor Castle, hosted by the King. Both Charles and Macron are expected to deliver speeches to the assembled guests.

It remains uncertain whether the princess will grace the banquet with her presence, as Kensington Palace has yet to confirm her attendance.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, July 9) sees the President Macron and his wife will join Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Lady Starmer for a luncheon at Downing Street, paving the way for a UK-France summit at Number 10 scheduled for Thursday.
