Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos Imitate Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's US Open Styles for Halloween
Nailed it! Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos gave a sneak peek at their array of Halloween costumes for the annual Live episode by perfectly replicating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s US Open looks.
Kelly, 54, was a dead-ringer for Taylor, 34, donning a red and white gingham mini dress that was nearly identical to the Reformation frock the “Fortnight” singer wore to watch tennis in September. She even matched the Grammy winner‘s sandy blonde hair with a side part and added black oval sunglasses, brown sandals and Taylor’s signature red lipstick.
Mark, 54, channeled Travis’ white Gucci polo shirt, cardigan and shorts combo along with the matching bucket hat the Kansas City Chiefs star, 35, wore to the event. He added a fake mustache to match Travis’ facial hair and brown loafers. Thanks to Mark’s commitment to fitness, his legs looked just as muscular as the professional athlete’s.
“Nobody gives less Taylor vibes than me,” Kelly told USA Today on Monday, October 28. “I’ve known Taylor Swift since she was a young teenager and first appeared on our show many, many, many years ago. And she’s been on our show many times, and in every era of her life. She is just as charming and divine and delightful, and all of the things that you think she is for all of these years.”
The host continued, “I can’t capture the essence of that in a very brief clip of her dancing at the US Open, but I did my best to at least not embarrass her on behalf of both of us.”
Kelly was describing the moment Taylor and Travis were caught singing along and dancing to The Darkness’ 2003 hit “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” as it was played on the loudspeakers at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center when the couple took in the men’s final match between Italy’s Jannik Sinner and the USA’s Taylor Fritz on September 8.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native said Mark didn’t get the actual designer wardrobe that Travis wore, joking, “We don’t typically keep real Gucci there,” referring to the show’s costume closet.
While Kelly has met Taylor on numerous occasions, Mark has yet to meet the source of his costume inspo. He told the publicaiton that Travis “seems like a great guy and he’s funny.” But added, “Who knows? He may see it and [be like], ‘Who’s that short guy trying to come off as me?’” Mark is 5-foot-8 and Travis is a towering 6-foot-5.
Kelly and Mark’s Halloween Live episode has the theme “Only Halloween in the Building” and will see the couple do dozens of costume changes during the show, some of which were filmed during pre-recorded segments.
“I hosted SNL once in my life (in 2003), and I always say our Halloween show is the closest thing to hosting SNL that there is to actually hosting SNL,” Kelly explained. “You come out, you do your live opening bit, then you throw to a taped piece. You run backstage while that taped piece is playing, then they go to commercial break. You’ve got the taped piece and two minutes to change hair, makeup, wardrobe, costume, everything. You’ve got a very small window of time to get back out there and do the next segment. And that’s how the show runs.”
