Katy Perry Performs to Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood' at Eras Tour Following Resolution of Feud
At the first stop of her Eras tour in Sydney, Australia, Katy Perry demonstrated her appreciation for Taylor Swift by dancing to “Bad Blood.” This comes nine years after the song's release, during a time when fans speculated it was about Perry due to their ongoing feud.
On Friday, February 23, the “Firework” singer, 39, viewed the show from a VIP section alongside Rita Ora and Taika Waititi. Perry was captured on fan-shared video bobbing her head and singing to the 1989 Swift track while the 34-year-old performer graced the stage.
Not only did Perry cheer from the audience, but also got a chance to meet with Swift backstage. She posted a pre-show selfie with Swift on Instagram, saying “Got to see an old friend shine tonight.” The post was accompanied by numerous videos and photos from the event.
Perry's supportive presence at the show comes nearly a decade after the “Cruel Summer” singer indirectly pointed at Perry as the subject of “Bad Blood” during an interview with Rolling Stone in September 2014.
“For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not,” said Swift, without naming anyone, adding, “She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away. Was that friendship or was it the harshest insult of my life?”
Swift next alleged that the other person did something “so horrible” that they became sworn enemies. It was related to business rather than a boy, Swift claimed, saying the other singer attempted to undercut her entire arena tour. This made Swift, who dislikes confrontations, feel compelled to avoid her.
The day after the publication of that interview, Perry hinted that she was the unnamed artist. “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing,” she tweeted somewhat mysteriously. This marked the beginning of their public discord that lasted for years,
It wasn’t until 2018 that Swift disclosed Perry had extended an olive branch, literally, to reconcile. They kept working on their friendship, with Perry appearing in Swift’s “You Need to Calm Down” video in June 2019.
The following September, Perry publicly discussed the feud on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. She confessed that it had been due to a “misunderstanding.” Perry pointed out, “It was really unfortunate. But we made amends and I believe in redemption and forgiveness. It's important to set an example for younger fans that asking for forgiveness and confronting someone with whom you have a problem can be a cool thing.”
