Following the path of her mother, Cindy Crawford, into modeling, Kaia Gerber had to step into rather large shoes. But it was only last year that she truly appreciated how big those designer high heels were.
In a conversation with WSJ. Magazine released on Tuesday, Gerber shared that the 2023 Apple TV+ series The Super Models significantly impacted her. The show documented the stories of iconic supermodels like her mother, Cindy Crawford, and others including Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, and Linda Evangelista. This helped Gerber appreciate the pioneering role her mother played in the modeling industry, a domain she is now part of.
Gerber confessed, "After it, I was star-struck by my mom. I didn't appreciate how iconic you actually are... this didn't click when I was younger."
Though Gerber has been in the modeling industry since her younger years and has currently ventured into acting and book club curation, she expressed admiration for her mother's success originating from a drastically different background.
She acknowledged her mother’s ambition and the courage to follow her instincts despite discouragement, stating, “I found it amazing that she always had this ambition. She pursued paths where people warned her 'This will harm your career. Don't proceed.' Yet she trusted her instincts."
With a supermodel mother and father, Rande Gerber, who initiated the Casamigos tequila line with actor George Clooney, Gerber is aware of her privileged background. However, she is also grateful for it.
Accentuating her acceptance, Gerber told the magazine, "I am familiar with all the exceptional opportunities it has delivered, and I intend not to portray it negatively as that would belie the truth."
Besides the customary advice parents give to their kids, like coping with school, friendships, relationships, Gerber, now 22, has had the unique chance to receive professional-level guidance from industry leaders who also happen to be her parents.
Regarding this, she stated, “I can consult my parents on career and business-related issues. It’s unusual to have parents from the same industry or profession as yours, whose advice you trust implicitly.”
