The Bear is preparing to become the Boss. In a GQ interview focused on the latest edition of his Calvin Klein campaign, Jeremy Allen White also opened up about his upcoming starring role as Bruce Springsteen in the biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere, shouting out a “team of folks” for helping him transform into the iconic New Jersey rock star.

The Emmy winner is stepping out of the kitchen and into the studio for 20th Century Studios’ Deliver Me From Nowhere, which will follow the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album, Nebraska. While speaking with GQ, White revealed that he had begun the process of transforming into the “Dancing in the Dark” musician. “I’m really lucky that there’s sort of a team of folks now in place to help young actors portray rock stars,” White said, subtly referencing celebrity vocal coaches like Eric Vetro, who has helped young male stars like Austin Butler and Timothée Chalamet transform into iconic musicians such as Elvis Presley and Bob Dylan for feature films. While White didn’t mention Vetro by name, he revealed that he still intends to do his own singing in the film, which he previously told Variety at The Bear’s season three premiere. “I’ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing.”

According to White, Springsteen has been “really supportive of the film,” and the two have spent some time together. “I’ve had some access to him and he’s just the greatest guy,” White said. He’s also been poring over old concert footage. “It’s really great to go down a YouTube rabbit hole and find him at all these different periods in his life and be able to listen to his speaking voice as well as his singing voice,” he said. “That’s kind of been the deal, just listening to him a lot and watching him a lot. It’s been really fun preparing.”

Deliver Me From Nowhere is written and directed by Scott Cooper, who directed Jeff Bridges to a best-actor Oscar for playing a down-and-out country musician in Crazy Heart. The film will revolve around the making of Springsteen’s Nebraska, his emotionally raw and dark album that features singles “Atlantic City” and “Open All Night.” It will also focus on the singer as he grapples with becoming a global pop star while wrestling personal demons. White recently starred as head chef Carmy Berzatto in season three of The Bear, with season four of the Emmy-winning FX comedy series expected to come out sometime next year. Luckily for White, The Bear shot parts of season four while filming season three, allowing the actor to spend the summer channeling the Boss for the biopic. But if Carmy has a bit of a Jersey accent in new episodes of The Bear, you’ll know why.
