Jelly Roll Praises Taylor Swift as the 'Next Michael Jackson' While Earning Grammy Nominations
The artist Jelly Roll has dubbed Taylor Swift the queen of pop, drawing comparisons between the "Anti-Hero" singer and the late pop icon Michael Jackson. Jelly Roll, a rising star in country music, voiced his admiration for Swift and other influential musicians when commenting on his recent Grammy nominations.
In a February 1 interview on Audacy's Katie & Company's Superstar Power Hour, the 39-year-old said that getting a Grammy nomination overshadows all other achievements. He quipped, "It's weird that I was only the CMA new artist for a day. From now on, I will be introduced as the Grammy-nominated Jelly Roll. It's surreal."
The "Need a Favor" artist also reflected on his profound impression when he first saw Taylor's name and photo during an NFL game's broadcast. This experience led him to draw parallels between her and the world-renowned "Thriller" musician.
Jelly Roll revealed during the interview, "The first time I saw Taylor Swift at the Chiefs game, I was instantly reminded of Michael Jackson. Her title with '15-time Grammy award winner' underneath is a pure accolade. There's nothing above that - she is the queen."
Jelly Roll has received two 2024 Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Lainey Wilson for their remix of "Save Me". Reacting to his Grammy nomination, the Tennessee born artist shared an emotional Instagram video in November 2023.
He shared, "Getting a Grammy nomination is an artist's biggest honor, and I experienced that today. I haven't cried since my father passed away. I love you all so much."
Jelly Roll and Taylor Swift, aged 34, might meet at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, where Swift is nominated for six awards, including Album of the Year and Best Pop Solo, for her albums Midnights and “Anti-Hero.” This year, she has also snagged a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her song "Karma" with Ice Spice.
Even before the 2024 Grammy Awards have begun, Taylor Swift is already making history, being the most nominated artist for Song of the Year. If her album Midnights clinches the Album of the Year award, she will be the first artist ever to win this category four times.
Meanwhile, the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, was nominated for an astounding 38 Grammys in his time, securing 13 wins. Furthermore, he was posthumously awarded The Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 and the esteemed Grammy Legend Award in 1993.
