The following is a small sampling of the things Donald Trump, who JD Vance is trying to get elected president, has warned will happen if he doesn’t win a second term in November:

Yet according to the Ohio senator, Democrats are the ones who have injected a gloomy and menacing tone into the 2024 election. Speaking to Fox News following the third night of the Democratic National Convention, Vance claimed, “What so many of the speakers did, including Tim Walz, is basically say that if you want a better life for your children, if you want to vote for Donald Trump to change the direction of this country, you’re a bad person.” (Fact-check: Nobody said this.) “And I think that’s just a fundamental message that falls flat for Americans who have suffered under the policies of Kamala Harris.… I thought it was actually a very dark and ominous tone where they attacked Donald Trump, and they attacked the people who voted for him rather than offer a compelling vision for the future.”

Also this week, Vance told reporters that Democrats should “pump the brakes a little bit on the apocalyptic rhetoric around Donald Trump,” warning that it could lead to violence. As a reminder, Trump incited a violent attack on the Capitol after he lost the 2020 election, which lead to the deaths of seven people (though he has falsely claimed “nobody was killed on January 6.”) The former president has also defended the people who chanted “hang Mike Pence” that day.

Incidentally, it appears that Tim Walz and his message are resonating with voters, while Vance’s, not so much.
