Following 11 days in the Australian jungle, Jamie Lynn Spears has been the second celebrity to quit the reality show I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here. Her exit came just two days after her co-star Grace Dent also left the competition to return home.

The information was released on Wednesday 29 November, revealing that Jamie Lynn, aged 32 and sister to renowned pop star Britney Spears, abandoned the camp and her aspirations of becoming the jungle queen in the early morning hours. Her exit from the show was confirmed by organisers who attributed it to “medical grounds”.

An ITV representative announced to the audience: “Jamie Lynn Spears has departed from I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! on medical grounds. She has been a wonderful campmate who excelled at trials and has bonded very well with other celebrities.”

Jamie-Lynn is now the second participant to be removed from the program in just a few days, following her co-star Grace Dent who also exited the show earlier on Monday due to “medical grounds.”

The celebrity's exit is likely to be a big blow for many fans and viewers, who had taken great pleasure in seeing her face, and overcome, the most challenging jungle tasks throughout her stay in the camp.

Despite the disappointment of losing a fan-favourite, it had been anticipated by many viewers that Jamie-Lynn might make an early exit, especially after witnessing her struggle with being away from her children.

Throughout her stay in the camp, Jamie-Lynn was frequently seen in tears as she grappled with the distance from her home. She had previously teased that she was ready to quit before her official departure.

During her last episode which aired on Tuesday night, Jamie-Lynn seemed increasingly exasperated when she tried unsuccessfully to use the camp phone box to call home, as there was no dial tone for international calling.

Upon exiting the phone box, a downtrodden Jamie was seen crying behind a tree - a move that did not go unnoticed by her fellow campmates.

Her fellow contestant Tony Bellew, worried about her wellbeing, approached her to provide a comforting hug and lend support, having observed her struggle with jungle life.

After her exit, Jamie-Lynn will now be able to return to the United States and reunite with her family and children, whom she has missed greatly during her 11-day stay in the camp.

The reality show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! continues its daily broadcast at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
