Influencer Creates Custom Dress for 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Finale Premiere

Fashion influencer Madeleine White, known for her DIY and upcycled fashion designs, has taken on her latest fashion challenge: sewing her own black tie gown to wear to the finale premiere for The Summer I Turned Pretty.

White, who recently married DJ Andrew Fedyk, designed all of her own bridesmaid dresses, which, she shared with Vogue. Each took around 30 hours for her to construct and embellish by hand.

Then, on September 12, after feeling uninspired by her off-the-rack options with a black tie premiere looming, White decided to go through the process all over again. She decided to use the pattern from her bridesmaid dresses to sew herself a brand new handmade gown for the event.

With only 36 hours until the premiere, she shared the process with her followers as she went on the hunt for fabric, starting by looking at curtain panels at HomeGoods. Ultimately she found success at Michaels, buying a large piece of red fabric and taking it home to begin cutting out the panels.

Within just one hour, White had the main part of her corset completed. The next day, she resumed working on her ensemble and showed the process of her constructing and bedazzling the scallop details at the bottom of the corset.

Showing herself sitting on her couch painstakingly sewing rhinestones on the dress, White said, “This is easily the worst part of doing these dresses. So I guess I’ll be here.”

White then posted a video montage of her in front of different landmarks around Paris with her corset and sewing needle in hand, still adding finishing touches just before the event.

“Girl I NEEEEEED to see that dress!” one of her followers commented excitedly on the post.

Finally, it was time for the big reveal. She first showed herself getting ready, tying up the corset and adding her accessories before stepping back to show the glamorous ensemble.

“Can you believe I did this in, like, three days with fabric from Michaels?” White said in the video.

She then showed footage of her having professional photos taken at the event, confidently posing in her fabulous creation.
