It’s no secret that Kate Steinberg, known for her comedic throwback skits on TikTok, met her fiancé Chad Savage in a rather unconventional way. Now, they’re approaching their engagement unconventionally too.

The pair met under already unlikely circumstances, while filming for an HBO Max reality show called 12 Dates of Christmas. Then, to make matters even more unusual, production was halted about six weeks in due to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Savage revealed that, during the quarantine period that followed, he and Steinberg spent every night having FaceTime “dates” with each other, getting to know each other even better than they already had while filming the show. By the time they resumed production of the show in June of 2020, the pair had grown incredibly close.

A month later, in July of 2020, the couple and their castmates flew to California to film the show’s finale, and Savage made the decision to propose to Steinberg on the show. Savage clarified that the show was supposed to show lighthearted dates, and engagement was not a goal of the show’s plot, so he never expected to find his future wife during the experience.

Since then, the couple has moved in together and shares their life and travels to France, Italy, and beyond with their followers.

Now, five years later and more in love than ever, Savage decided it was time to re-propose to Steinberg. The couple joint posted a video of the big moment on their Instagram accounts on September 23.

“Kate, from the moment I met you, in this very place, I began to feel that my life had just changed,” Savage said during the proposal. He then kneeled down and asked Steinberg if she would “still agree” to marry him, and pulled out a sparkling diamond and gold band.

Steinberg stared in disbelief, clearly not expecting him to have bought her another ring. “Do you like it?” Savage asked, smiling, still on one knee. Steinberg responded with “Yes! Oh my god!” as he slipped the ring on her finger and she began to jump up and down with joy.

“I’m not one to get emotional, but he got me here,” Steinberg wrote in the video’s caption. “Five years later in the same spot where we met (except this time, no Christmas lights or reality show). This reproposal meant everything to me.”
