Trading in My Leggings for the Lululemon Mini-Flared Pants
Over the past year, I've moved away from traditional, full-length workout leggings, opting instead for biker shorts or knee-length pants until the temperature drops below 50-degrees. As the Nor’Eastern winter sets in, I've started wearing flared leggings instead. Despite the recent trend set by Gen Z, my decision has nothing to do with fashion – I simply prefer the lack of constraint around my ankles, which is why I've been choosing the Lululemon Align Mini-Flared Pants.
The Mini-Flared pants, part of the brand’s popular Align collection, are made from the same ultra-soft material and flare from the calf, creating subtle compression around that area. This design combines the second-skin feel of traditional workout leggings and provides ample space for the ankles. When I first wore these pants, it was unexpected to have the shape of my calf emphasized so significantly, but I soon grew to appreciate how they accentuated my muscles. Considering their grip around the calf, which depends on the selected length (28- or 32-inches), you can perform strength and treadmill workouts without the risk of tripping.
Many customers appreciate the softness, flattery, and comfort that these flared pants provide. One customer shared, "I love how these pants snugly fit my calves while giving a flared bottom." Another customer stated, "Of all the Align designs, this fit is the best ever." Some customers suggested one should opt for a larger size if unsure, as while the pants have a great silhouette, they have a tighter fit around the calves.
The Mini-Flared pants are my preferred choice for my 45-60 minute Walk+Run Peloton workouts, and have quickly become my go-to for strength-training regimens like Bodypump, where there are ample squatting and lunging movements. They are equally comfortable for my kickboxing routines. Paired with a matching crop top, I channel a late Y2K gaming character vibe.
The particular style of the Lululemon pants, with their light flare, makes it comfortable to wear them as a substitute for traditional leggings, which would not be possible with a wider flare. Last year, I wore the Groove High-Rise Split-Hem Flared Pants for some group fitness classes due to laundry mix-ups. However, this style was not as comfortable due to a wider flare from the knee instead of the calf – it felt like trying to tread in plastic bags. This was quite awkward during an intense 305 Fitness class, causing me to tie them around my ankles.
Currently, I have a navy pair of the Mini-Flared pants, but I have plans to add a black version to my collection soon. I recommend grabbing your own pair before they start trending on TikTok and sell out.
