News of Matthew Perry's sudden demise on October 28 surprised the world. Perry, recognized globally as a beloved figure from Friends, was only 54 at the time of his death caused by a supposed drowning in his Los Angeles residence. He was discovered lifeless in his hot tub after first responders arrived following a report of a heart attack. Fans worldwide are mourning and questioning the unexpected loss of such a popular actor.

Perry's life ended in his Los Angeles dwelling, specifically in his hot tub, as per law enforcement insiders who gave the details to TMZ. These same sources also informed that he had talked about the hot tub just a few days before his death. The LA Coroner has yet to release an official cause of his death at the time of this article.

As per the insiders, no narcotics were found on the scene. This indicated a contrast to Perry's well-documented struggle with addiction through the period he was rising to fame with his hit sitcom.

Perry, a Friends veteran, was candid about his fight with drug abuse, revealing his daily intake of 55 Vicodin and his weight dropping to 128 lbs. Perry grappled with alcohol addiction from the age of 24, just as he joined Friends.

Recalling those challenging times, Perry wrote in his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, "Initially, I handled it relatively well. But by 34, I was already deeply embroiled in lots of problems, but of course, there were years I was sober during that time. The ninth season was a notable period when I was sober all the way through. Interestingly, that was the season I was nominated for best actor, showing me a thing or two."

Despite his initial successes, Perry's addiction became overwhelming in the long run. His memoir reveals more - "I didn't know how to stop. If the law enforcement had warned me that I'd be put in jail if I drank that night, I'd have begun packing immediately. Since the disease of addiction progresses, it worsens with age."

In Perry's trying times, his Friends' co-actors stood firmly with him. Perry's memoir states, "They were 'patient' and 'understanding,' and then uses a metaphor saying, 'It's akin to how penguins behave. In the wild, when a penguin falls sick or gets grievously hurt, the other penguins crowd around it for support. They journey together till the sick one is ready to walk again. I experienced something similar from my cast."

As per the latest reports, most of the Friends team – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer – have not shared their reactions to Perry’s sudden death.
