Matt Czuchry from Gilmore Girls Stands Up for Logan Amid Fans' Criticisms of His Character
Matt Czuchry has come to the defense of his character Logan Huntzberger, from Gilmore Girls, following accusations from fans that he was not a good boyfriend to Rory Gilmore.
On the talk show The Talk, which aired on Tuesday, April 2, the hosts showed Matt, 46, a viral TikTok video. This video featured a Gilmore Girls' fan saying, “Let’s not talk about the complicated history of Jess,” referring to Milo Ventimiglia’s character who was romantically involved with Rory (portrayed by Alexis Bledel) and “Logan's inconsistencies.”
She went on to assert, “Why aren’t we addressing the fact that both options are quite subpar and could be why standards for women have hit rock bottom over the past decades,” she added. Gilmore Girls aired for seven seasons beginning in 2000 on the CW, and was followed by the 2016 miniseries, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
In response, Matt said, “We should not be striving for perfection in anything, be it relationships or anything else,” which was met with applause from the audience.
Matt, who now stars in The Resident, added, “That show has stood the test of time and is loved by several generations, because of its timeless narrative,” as a new audience has tuned in since all episodes of Gilmore Girls became available on Netflix from 2016.
When speaking about Rory’s romantic interests, Matt stated, “I believe Logan had his ups and downs just like Jess and Dean did, because nobody's perfect. That is what makes the show enjoyable - that the characters are imperfect, yet so well developed.”
In response to the ongoing debate over who truly was Rory’s greatest love, and whether the TikToker’s view was correct, Matt said, “As long as we’re not expecting perfection, then I’m fine with that interpretation.”
Alexis, 42, is also uncertain about who Rory’s great love was. She was asked to choose between Jared Padalecki’s Dean, Jess, and Logan during a May 2021 appearance on Watch What Happens With Andy Cohen.
In response, the Mad Men actress merged the three names and questioned, “Jeagan?” She added, “I can’t single out anyone.”
Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life left fans in suspense when Rory found out she was pregnant, but did not reveal the father's identity. Many fans speculated that Logan was the father, including the miniseries’ costume designer, Valerie Campbell.
In a TikTok video, Valerie broke down the timeline of Rory’s relationships, which included Logan, Paul, and a one-night stand with Wookiee. Valerie suggested that based on the series' four-season timeline, Logan was the likely father of the child.
“The only clear choice is — you guessed it — Logan,” she declared. In another video, she expounded, “If Paul were the father, she would’ve given birth in fall, and if it was Wookiee, she would’ve been nearing her due date.”
