Gigi and Bella Hadid Swap Their Iconic Hair Colors
For most of their time in the spotlight, Gigi Hadid has been blonde and Bella Hadid brunette. The contrast suited the model sisters, giving them a yin-yang kind of balance. Recently, however, the pair swapped hair colors—and both look stunning.
Bella has been blonde for some time now, first debuting a fresh honey shade in May. Before that, the star was last blonde back in 2022. In a 2016 interview with Allure, Bella explained that she initially went brunette to help differentiate herself from her sister. “I just have a darker personality,” she told the magazine. “And my sister being blonde and me being brunette, it’s a good separation.” Now, the sisters have contrasting hair colors once again—but this time, flipped.

A few days ago, photos of Gigi sporting a chic black bob drew attention. We asked her hairstylist, Dimitris Giannetos, what prompted the decision to go short and dark. “I created this look for Gigi for a Maybelline campaign,” he tells us. “It was for a new black mascara, so we wanted to do something very edgy and bold. We went with a matte black, avoiding any red undertones.”
Transitioning from blonde to dark hair can be tricky, but Giannetos says it’s all about technique—and he has a pro tip. “To go dark from blonde, you have to first fill the hair with a red color. Starting from a red helps the black look rich and not gray,” he says.
The swap feels easy, and that’s kind of the point. For Gigi and Bella, hair color has always been part of the fun.
