From a Dangerous Corrie Villain to Happy Valley: Emmerdale's Gus Actor's TV Journey - OK! Magazine
Alan McKenna, known for his role in Emmerdale as Rhona Goskirk's ex-husband Gus, quickly became a notable character in the Yorkshire village after his initial appearance earlier this year.
Prior to his presence in this successful ITV soap, the 57-year-old actor could be seen in multiple renowned shows such as The Bill, Waterloo Road, and Happy Valley. McKenna also broadened his acting experience by performing in other soaps like EastEnders and Coronation Street where he depicted a perilous villain.
The actor not only displayed his acting talent but also demonstrated his proficiency in writing, producing, and starring in his personal underwater action film. This piece will provide additional details about McKenna as his character continues to stir affairs in Emmerdale...
Before portraying Gus in Emmerdale, McKenna embodied the character Tony Andrews in EastEnders for eight segments between 2006 and 2007. One of his most remarkable soap performances was on Coronation Street in 2018 for six episodes, where he played a villainous character.
In Coronation Street, McKenna played the notorious drug lord, Ronan Truman, whose son, Cormac Truman, suffered a lethal drug overdose in Ryan Connor's flat. Angered by his son's death, Ronan planned his retribution, which culminated in him nearly killing Ryan Connor.
The consequential aftermath led to him crashing his car against a post which was deliberately removed by Ryan's brother Ali to eliminate him. Ali then convinced the police and villagers that Ronan had committed suicide by removing the post before he could intervene.
Mckenna has flaunted his acting ability in numerous TV shows like Save Me, Moving On, Happy Valley, Doc Martin, DCI Banks, New Tricks, The Bill, Waterloo Road, and Bad Girls. He even lent his voice for characters in the widely played video game, Titanfall.
Among his well-recognized roles, was his depiction of Patrick McGuire in BBC's series Doctors. He played the said character recurrently from 2001 to 2003 and once more in September 2010.
His filmography is equally commendable, featuring in films such as Blessed with Heather Graham and Second in Command alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme. He also wrote, produced, and starred in his personal underwater action movie, titled Pressure.
He has also showcased his talent in several theatre productions including Daphne's Vase, Extracts from my Diary, Over Nothing at All, Donna Elvira's Revenge, The Internationalist, and Women in Love. It is interesting to note that acting appears to be a family trait as his great aunt was the renowned Allied heroine of World War II, Odette Hallowes.
