Love bloomed on the dance floor! Britt Stewart and Daniel Durant, who were once competitors on Dancing With the Stars Season 31, started a real-life romantic relationship less than a year after the show.

They made their relationship public in February 2023, with Durant sharing a selfie with the DWTS pro on a boardwalk, captioned “My Valentine. ♥️ Happy Valentine’s Day” on Instagram.

The High School Musical actor and Stewart first met in September the year before when they were paired up on the dance show. When discussing their training process, Durant, who is deaf, told Us Weekly and other reporters that Stewart understood him without requiring an interpreter. He said, “She’s learning how to sign, she knows how to sign. Before, my interpreter [Gabe Gomez] … he’d be there interpreting for us at practice, and now he fades away during practice, and it’s nice. She understands me.” Durant couldn’t stop praising Stewart, calling her a brilliant woman and saying that she showed him amazing dance skills.

Stewart, on the other hand, was thrilled to be partnering up with Durant. “I love when I can have a story and passion and heart, and Daniel is all of that and more,” she told Us at the time.

Durant and the Share the Movement president were sent home before the finale after making it to the season 31 semifinals, which aired on Disney+ in November 2022. Despite receiving a 36 and a 34 on their Viennese waltz and samba routines, respectively, the dancing duo were sent home. Stewart congratulated Durant on Instagram, saying, “Daniel, none of these words can really fully express how grateful I am for the past couple of months. What you’ve accomplished in a short period of time blows me away. To see how you’ve grown into a dancer is amazing. I need to get footage of our first meet when I taught you our very first steps together to remind you how much you’ve evolved! To see you be vulnerable with me and the world was so brave and a true inspiration to me and I know so many others. Thank you for opening yourself up to me. I wholeheartedly believe that this partnership is WAY bigger than ourselves and the ballroom! This is not the end for #TeamSignToShine and I’m excited for our future plans to continue representing and empowering our communities. I’m very thankful to @dancingwiththestars for bringing you into my life. You already know..... YOU ARE STUCK WITH ME 🤟🏾❤️."

The couple did not reveal when their dancing partnership turned romantic, but Durant and Stewart performed together at various DWTS live shows in early 2023. At the Wilmington, North Carolina tour stop in February, Durant announced to the crowd during their performance of one of their dances from Disney+, “Happy Valentine’s Day [and] sure enough, we’re dating."
