Derek Hough's Wife Hayley Erbert Hospitalized for Emergency Craniectomy After Dancing With the Stars

Hayley Hough (née Erbert), the wife of Dancing With the Stars professional Derek Hough, underwent an emergency craniectomy after being rushed to the hospital following a performance on Wednesday, December 6.

Post performance, Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma due to a ruptured blood vessel, Derek, 38, stated on his Instagram on Thursday, December 7. His wife was stable following the emergency procedure.

Derek expressed gratitude towards the medical staff and first responders who were caring for his wife. He also asked his followers for their prayers and positive energy during this difficult time.

Fellow Dancing With the Stars performers and fans flooded the comments with their prayers and well-wishing messages for Hayley.

Peta Murgatroyd commented, “Please send Hayley our love!” and Lele Pons commented, “Praying for a fast recovery. She’s amazing! It's so heartbreaking.”

A fan added their prayers, writing that they were praying for Haley after enjoying the previous night's show.

Derek and his wife Hayley began their relationship in 2015, both being part of Dancing With the Stars. They kept their relationship out of the public eye until announcing it via Instagram in 2017.

Derek proposed in June 2022, sharing a photo of himself and Hayley with the caption, “It’s only the beginning…the beginning of forever.”

Following their marriage on August 26, 2023, Hayley shared that their wedding took place in a redwood forest, in front “mother tree” that was surrounded by smaller trees. She said the symbolism behind it was beautiful, to them it was about planting the seeds to grow their family.

The reception was held in a century-old barn, with guests including some famous friends like Derek’s sister Julianne Hough, Nina Dobrev, Shaun White, and Dancing with the Stars host, Alfonso Ribeiro.

Haley mentioned that their love for nature played a big role in their wedding day and it was an essential factor in choosing their wedding location. She explained, “Nature was the first thing that was important to us. Northern California just spoke to us. We desired for our guest to experience the place we adore, surrounded by nature. It also felt incredibly romantic.”
