The Rollercoaster Journey of Conor McGregor: Various Retirements, Feuds with Machine Gun Kelly, Allegations of Sexual Assault, and Other Events.
Although Conor McGregor is a champion fighter, his career has not been without its ups and downs – both inside and outside the Octagon.
McGregor began his MMA career in 2008 and signed with the professional league in 2013, collecting various accolades including the UFC Featherweight Championship, UFC Lightweight Championship, Fight of the Night, and Knockout of the Night throughout his reign in the UFC. However, in March 2016, McGregor suffered his first defeat against Nate Diaz.
Following the loss, McGregor announced his retirement from fighting via Twitter in April 2016. But just four months later, he revealed his intention to return to the sport to face Diaz in a rematch, which he won in August 2016. McGregor then set his sights on boxing, challenging Floyd Mayweather Jr. to a match, which took place in August 2017 and was billed as "the biggest fight in combat sports history."
After retiring from the sport for the second time in March 2019, McGregor reversed his decision to fight Donald Cerrone the following year and announced his retirement for the third time in June 2020. Two months later, he proposed to Dee Delvin, his long-time girlfriend, after 12 years of dating.
In 2021, McGregor made headlines after reportedly getting into a physical altercation with Machine Gun Kelly at the MTV Video Music Awards. However, McGregor's representative denied the allegation that the rapper refused to take a photo with the mixed martial artist.
In June 2023, McGregor was accused of raping a woman in Miami, Florida, while attending Game 4 of the NBA Finals. His representative refuted the allegations, claiming that the accusations were entirely false. At the time of the allegations, McGregor and his fiancée announced that they were expecting their fourth child.
From his victories in the Octagon to his controversial retirement announcements and personal scandals, Conor McGregor has had many ups and downs throughout his career.
