Chrissy Teigen Responds to Accusations of Having Kids to Maintain Relevance
Chrissy Teigen had a strong comeback for a critic who accused her of having children just to "remain in the public eye." The controversy was sparked by an Instagram post from her husband, John Legend, celebrating their oldest daughter Luna's eighth birthday on April 15.
A comment from a user tagging the couple said, “Always trying to keep up with trends by discussing and prolifically having children - however, no one cares.” The comment was eventually highlighted on the celebrity Instagram commentary page.
Chrissy, who is 38 years old, responded, “Clearly, I'm just bored and in need of attention - there's no better way to achieve that than by having kids.” The interaction seems to have been removed since then.
John, 45, and Chrissy have four children together. They welcomed Luna in 2016, followed by their son Miles in May of 2018. Both of the children were conceived through IVF treatments.
In September 2020, the couple tragically lost their son, Jack, during Chrissy's pregnancy. The Cravings author delighted fans when she announced in August 2022 that the couple was expecting again, thanks to IVF.
The announcement read: "The past few years have been an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Yet, our home and hearts are filled with joy once again. After one billion injections (lately in the leg, as pictured), we're expecting another." The caption was followed by an Instagram post showing her baby bump.
“I usually tell myself at each appointment, ‘I'll announce the news if everything is healthy today,’ but then I hear a heartbeat and decide I'm still too nervous. I remain hopeful and feel wonderful, despite never leaving an appointment without a degree of anxiety. However, thus far, everything is absolutely perfect and lovely," she followed up with. she added, "It was a relief to finally share the news after having to keep it a secret.”
Their daughter Esti was born on January 13, 2023, and they surprised their fans by welcoming son Wren through surrogacy on June 19, 2023.
Chrissy announced in an Instagram post dated June 28, 2023, “For as long as I can recall, I’ve always dreamed of having four children.”
“I didn’t think I’d be able to carry any more babies on my own after losing Jack,” she continued. She added, they began consulting with surrogate agencies from 2021.
She further shared, “At some point, early in our surrogacy journey, I finished a therapy session, went downstairs and said to John — I want to try to carry just one more time,” revealed the cookware designer.
A joke from Chrissy about their youngest daughter Esti was included in John's post about their oldest one, Luna. Under a series of Luna's photos, he wrote, “Luna made us parents 8 years ago today and she’s truly the best daughter we could ask for. We love you to the moon and back, my brilliant girl!” Chrissy replied in the comments, referring to John's words about Luna being the “best daughter,” “Just read this to Esti.”
