Celine Dion Overcomes Stiff-Person Syndrome Diagnosis: She's 'Feeling Better' and in Control
Experiences of the iconic Celine Dion, it appears, do not always stay in Vegas. The singer, known for her hit, “I’m Alive,” recently ended a three-year hiatus from public appearances. Celine Dion disclosed her struggle with a unique neurological disorder referred to as Stiff-Person Syndrome late last year. She was seen at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena recently attending a hockey game with her sons, René-Charles, aged 22, and her 13-year-old twins, Eddy and Nelson. She shared their experiences on her Instagram, expressing how enjoyable the October 30 match between the Montreal Canadiens and the Vegas Golden Knights was.
The excitement did not end there. Celine Dion, along with her two youngest children, were spectators at Katy Perry's final concert of her “Play” residency at the Resorts World Theatre on November 4. A source intimately familiar with her situation disclosed to Life & Style that Celine Dion is no longer in hiding. Although she has undergone some trying times due to her Stiff-Person diagnosis and years of uncertainty and fear before its diagnosis, it appears she may have things under control now, thanks to the support from her family, doctors, and therapists.
Earlier in the year, Celine Dion had to cancel her Courage World Tour dates in 2023 and 2024 due to muscle spasms. Her sister, Claudette Dion, explained in an interview with Hello! Canada that her condition is akin to people who experience sudden leg or calf cramps during the night, only that Celine experiences it in all her muscles. Claudette added that they can do little to alleviate Celine's pain.
Celine is on the road to recovery, and is now more outgoing than before, but has her limits, according to an insider. The insider adds that she has her good days and her bad days, and it is daunting for the public to see her so vulnerable.
The love and support from her sons is, however, a huge boost for her. The insider reveals that they are her main source of motivation. Celine's husband, René Angélil, who is the father of the boys, died from cancer in 2016 at the age of 73.
Return to performance is still uncertain, however, despite rumors that emerged after she was reportedly heard singing a few notes during a locker room visit with Canadian players after the hockey game on October 30. The insider states that she is not yet physically ready to resume performing or recording. For now, the priority for Celine is to stay healthy and sturdy for her family’s sake though she may return to music in the future.
