Soft cheeses sold at stores including Aldi and Market Basket have been recalled over potential Listeria contamination, according to a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notice posted Monday.

Savencia Cheese USA, based in Pennsylvania, recalled seven different soft cheese products, including Market Basket Brie 6/8 ounce (oz) and Aldi Emporium Selection 12/8 oz Brie cheese.

The company said that the recalled items had “limited regional distribution in the United States,” and that the “few retailers” who have the potentially-contaminated cheeses are currently working on removing them from shelves.

The FDA notice didn’t specify which states may have received or sold these cheeses.

No illnesses have been reported so far, however, Listeria infections can be dangerous, particularly for older people, young kids, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant people. In this latter group, a Listeria infection—also called listeriosis—can sometimes lead to miscarriages or stillbirth.

In less serious cases, Listeria can cause intestinal illness, including vomiting and diarrhea. Symptoms usually show up within a day of eating something contaminated with the bacteria, and clear up within three days.

Savencia Cheese USA initiated the recall after routine testing at one of their manufacturing facilities—some “processing equipment at the site may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.”

Again, though the distribution of these cheeses was limited, the company said any consumers who purchased any of the recalled products shouldn’t eat them, and should bring them back to the place of purchase for a refund.

Consumers can also contact Savencia Cheese USA Consumer Relations at (800)-322-2743 or [email protected] with any questions.

Consumers can identify the recalled products by looking at the specific Best By, GTIN, UPC-A, and/or UPC-B codes on the products’ packaging.
