Get Prepared for the Upcoming Awards Season | Vanity Fair
By Katey Rich
The early part of January was marked by an unprecedented upheaval as actors, fresh from strike, engaged in rigorous awards-season activity, and the Emmys also unexpectedly came into the picture. However, we are currently in a relatively quiet phase of awards season, following the nominations a fortnight ago and with the Oscars set to take place in about a month.
However, there appears to be activity on the horizon, with Christopher Nolan and Alexander Payne potentially delivering lengthy speeches at the Directors Guild Awards. These awards, scheduled for this Saturday, allow all five nominees to receive awards and express their thoughts. This event marks the commencement of the next leg of awards season, which essentially extends up to Oscar night. The Academy's yearly nominees luncheon is due on Monday, where attendees from sound designers to Martin Scorsese will come together for the usual class photograph. Following this, the frenzy of awards shows, tribute awards, Q&As, cocktail parties, and more begins, as everyone seeks to influence voters before voting concludes on February 27.
During this week's Little Gold Men podcast, the team discusses what's to be expected as the season resumes, followed by a discussion on diverse listener questions ranging from the box office result of 'Poor Things' to the possibility of the Oscars increasing nominee counts in the acting domains.
We are also excited to declare that we will be managing our in-house Oscar pool for our listeners. To enlist for participation, as slots are limited, email [email protected] with the subject line “Oscar Pool.” We will follow up with more details.
