Kim Zolciak Advised by Andy Cohen to Curb Spending due to Kroy Biermann's Financial Troubles.
Andy Cohen expressed his concern regarding Kim Zolciak and her estranged husband Kroy Biermann's spending habits. In an episode of SiriusXM's "Andy Cohen Live," he stated that there are many clips of him saying to Kim that he is worried about how she spends her money and that Kroy is a retired football player and they don't have the football player money coming in anymore. Andy instructed Kim that she cannot continue to spend her money and not save.
Andy confirmed that he warned Kim about her financial habits just one week after news broke that she and Kroy filed for divorce after 11 years of marriage. Kroy filed his petition on May 5th and Kim submitted her own paperwork for a contested divorce on May 7th. In his petition, Kroy mentioned that their marriage was "irretrievably broken" and that their four minor children were in his custody. Kroy also asked for temporary and permanent sole legal and physical custody as well as child support and exclusive use and possession of their marital home. Kim requested alimony, child support, and for her legal fees to be paid while having her maiden name restored.
The couple's ongoing financial struggles led to their split. In October 2022, it was confirmed that the couple did not pay back a $300,000 loan that they took out on their home, which led to foreclosure proceedings. The couple's financial troubles continued when they failed to pay the IRS $1.1 million in unpaid taxes, interest, and penalties, and $15,000 in unpaid taxes for 2018.
An insider stated that the financial burdens placed on their relationship ultimately ended it, while a relationship expert stated that their split was not a surprise and that financial stress put both parties in a physiological stress response, leading to a self-preserving state of mind.
